Valdemar Bednarz – Obscene Extreme

01.01.2026

We cordially invite you to the photography exhibition by Valdemar Bednarz titled Obscene Extreme, organized by SOBIC, z.ú., in cooperation with curator Petr Hrubeš. The exhibition will open with a vernissage on December 10, 2025 at 6:30 p.m. and will run until March 15, 2026. The music group UFONS will perform at the event as musical accompaniment.

About the Exhibition
Can anything still shock us today? Where are the boundaries of what we consider extreme, and does anything obscene still exist in today’s society? These are the questions we may ask ourselves when viewing the photographs of Valdemar Bednarz—indeed, the very title of the exhibition invites such reflection. At the same time, we can approach the photographs analytically, as a report on a specific subculture of people who enjoy heavy music, tattoos, freedom, and perhaps even pain.

However, Bednarz’s photographs primarily capture playfulness, which, combined with pain, suffering, or even death, creates a remarkable form of irony. The photographer’s eye is also ironic, intertwining hardness with fragility, strength with helplessness, dirt with purity; and even though we may find ourselves in hell, no one appears unhappy. If we look at the extreme and obscene photographs long enough, tenderness and a smile begin to emerge. And then we may return to the same questions that first came to mind.

Notice: the exhibition may contain obscene and extreme photographs.

The ticket price outside the opening ceremony is 50,00 CZK per person.
